The Root Chakra

(This is part of a set that I am drawing for this series)

With the chakras, you will literally be working  from the ground up. The first chakra is your root chakra. It is located at the base of your spine.

The Zodiac signs for this chakra are Capricorn, Virgo, and Taurus.

The 4th Ray of "Harmony through Conflict" governs the base, or root chakra. This chakra symbol represents the most earth centered chakra. It stands for our inherited beliefs through our formative years. Self-preservation, personal survival and our identification with the physical world centers in this bottom most of the main seven chakras.

A healthy root chakra connects you with vitality to your family origin, your immediate society and to the global community. If your first 7 years were challenging and without love, then this damaged root chakra will function much differently. Issues of survival such as emotional dysfunction, stress, anxiousness, and restlessness will plague you.
You'll have fears of letting go, scarcity, poor boundaries, and more. It's during the first 7 years that we learn about where we fall in our relationships with our siblings, parents, our community, and how we relate to them.
I personally have always felt like I had to work a bit harder to get this chakra aligned, especially when my mind tends to wonder to the past.

Some health issues that you may experience with an out of balance root chakra are joint pain, lower backache, elimination problems, obesity, constipation, anorexia, and poor immune system function.

If you are experiencing any of these things, it is a good sign that your root chakra is out of balance.

Some questions to keep in mind when dealing with an out of balanced root chakra:
1. What beliefs did you inherit or learn from your family?
2.Is there unfinished business between you and your parents?
3.What limiting beliefs did you learn about personal survival and money?
4.Do you have personal boundaries that you maintain?
5. Is it difficult for you to bond with others?
6. Are you often sick or suffering from illness?

As the root chakra is the first chakra, it is the most physical one. This means that any activity that makes you more aware of your physical body will strengthen this chakra. It is the root of your being and establishes the deepest connections with your physical body, your environment, and the Earth.  Muladhara is the most instinctual of all chakras. It is your survival center. The fight-or-flight response comes from this chakra. It is your primal, animal nature.

Any type of physical activity will help strengthen this chakra. Sports, walking, yoga, martial arts, even your everyday tasks can be beneficial; like house cleaning or hand washing the dishes, even folding laundry. It's important to not over do it, or do things that would make you insensitive to pain. This will only hinder your chances of clearing a blockage. Meditation also helps, as it makes one more aware of the physical body.

The energy of this chakra allows us to harness courage, resourcefulness, and the will to live during trying times. It connects us to the spiritual energies of our ancestors, and their challenges and triumphs.

All of the 7 chakras are important and all interconnected with eachother. Usually when you balance one chakra it will create change in another. That being said, it is important to balance the root chakra first! If your root chakra is imbalanced  thaen you will lack the stability or rootedness that is necessary for true transformation and personal growth. We cannot grow and change unless we feel safe and secure.

Grounding is usually the first thing I do when I feel as though my root chakra is out of balance. You can do this either sitting or standing, whatever works best for you.

Stand up or sit up straight and relax.
Put your feet shoulder width apart or sit in easy sitting pose (criss cross applesauce)
If you are standing, slightly bend your knees and put your pelvis somewhat forward.
You want to make sure that your weight is evenly distributed between the soles and balls of your feet.
Sink your weight downward.
If you are sitting, place your hands next to you on the ground palms facing down.
Also, sink your weight downward.
Whatever position you are in, envision roots coming out from either your hands or your feet.
Relax your mind and focus on your breathing.
Push all of the negative or built up energy that you have down through your hands and feet.
Do this for several minutes until you feel calm and collected.

Contracting the Bottom Muscles can also be helpful in strengthening your root chakra.
For women, you can do kegal exercises, or just work on your muscles between your butt and genitals. I find that clenching your butt cheeks also helps. (Imagine pinching a penny between your butt cheeks.) Every time you contract your muscles inward, take a deep breath; and exhale when you relax the muscles. Do this for several minutes. This exercise can be done anytime; sitting, standing, even walking. It's great for when you don't have too much time.

Now lets move on to some Chakra Yoga!

Yoga itself is both a physical and spiritual practice. Yoga poses are not only exercises for your body, but also for your mind, emotions and spirit, which makes it the perfect practice for balancing the chakras. The best poses to balance your root chakra are ones that will enhance your connection with the Earth, poses that keep you rooted and grounded.

First there is Mountain Pose. Most basic of yoga poses. You are literally just standing there. lol. No, but really...This pose encourages your connection to Mother Earth. It connects you with your own body and grounds you in the present moment.
First, make sure you are barefoot. Stand straight with your hands at your sides. Make sure that your upper body, including your neck and shoulders are relaxed.
Next, begin focusing on your breathing. Take deep slow deep breaths into your belly, then exhale. Continue to do this, focusing on each breath,
Now turn your focus to the ground beneath your feet. Spread your toes and lift them off the ground. Do this several times.
Imagine roots spreading from your feet deep down into the Earth (much like the grounding exercise). Feel the stability and connection that the roots are giving you.
Continue breathing slowly and evenly. With your roots running deep, you are now standing strong as a Mountain.

Next is Warrior One Pose. This root chakra yoga pose allows your prana or "life force" to move through your body, rooting you through the first chakra.
As you breathe in this posture, visualize the color red flowing through your body and flowing into your base chakra.
Warrior One pose physically strengthens your legs, opens up your hips and can help with knee and lower back strength.
First, stand in Tadsana or Mountain Pose-easy, you just learned that one!
Take a deep breath and on an exhale step your left foot back about 3.5 feet.
Turn your left foot to about a 45 degree angle. Make sure it is firmly planted and touching the ground.
On an exhale, bend your right knee over the right ankle so that your shin is perpendicular to the floor. If you can, bring your right thigh parallel with the floor. (I'm not quite there yet)
Raise your arms above your head and touch the palms together (as in prayer position)
Breathe deeply and hold this position for one minute.
Finally, bend your knees and step your feet back together. Repeat for the other side.

Last is Bridge Pose. This is a dynamic root chakra yoga pose that allows your feet to be firmly rooted into the Earth and your spine engaged in the release of excess root chakra energy.
It also stimulates the throat chakra, opens the heart and solar plexus chakras, and balances the sacral chakra. (This is a great pose to go back to anytime)
Begin by laying on your back with your arms to your sides, palms facing down.
Bend your knees and keep your feet hip-width apart.
Bring your heels close to your body so that you can feel the tips of your fingers.
Without losing contact with the ground, press your feet into the mat. Engage your leg muscles, but don't lift yourself up. Feel the energy flowing through your legs. Breathe deeply.
Press your feet even more and lift your butt and lower back off the ground. Press the chest upward.
You can support yourself in this position with your hands on your lower back.
Breathe slowly and evenly and hold the pose for one minute.

On a sidenote for the Bridge Pose...ladies, if you have larger assets in your upper region, be sure you are wearing a sports bra to keep those puppies contained. It can feel as though they are trying to suffocate you. (problems I used to have. LOL)

Generally I continue to do the rest of my chakra yoga to balance my entire body, but these can be done separately as well. I do hope this helps you all in your journey to balance and strengthen your chakras.

Transcendence of unloving imprints in this chakra: "Others show you yourself and what you need to work on within, by their reflection of your own rejected or denied emotions."

May your light shine so brightly upon others that they too want to be a beacon unto the world

Fertility Spell

I do apologize. This post was meant to go out much sooner. But alas, life happens and doesn't always go according to plan. So here it is...

I used ground eggshell to cast my circle, which I think also enhances the fertility aspect of it all.

I recently had someone ask me to help them with some fertility magick. They have been trying to conceive for quite some time now with no luck. When they asked for my help, I got so excited. It couldn't have come at a better time, with the fertility energy of Beltane still lingering around. I, unfortunately didn't have a spell of my own for fertility magick. (Obviously with 4 kids, Hera had given us many blessings.) So, I decided to do some research. I was reading article after article, spell after spell, but nothing seemed to sit well. So I ended up writing my own. Now, this can be altered in any way to work for your needs.

What you will need:

Hyacinth for fertility
Clover for luck
3 candles; blue, pink, and green
a chalice full of apple juice

Get everything set up in a way that feels right for you. I had a patch of clovers in my backyard, so I decided it best to do this outside instead of on my altar.

First, cast your circle and call upon the fertility Goddess of your choice. For this spell I am calling upon Hera the Greek Goddess of fertility, but some would prefer Flora, Cernunnos, or even Pan. Go with what feels right for you.

I call upon you Hera, Goddess of Fertility. Give me guidance and bless me with your knowledge.

When you are ready, say these words:

Fertility arise in thee.
Let life be born inside of thee.
A home awaits with arms of love.
Please send a child for them to love.
Happiness will then surround
The place for which this child has found.
They will grow in love and light
And day to day be taught what's right.
Fertility arise in thee.
This is my will, So Mote it Be!

*If you are doing this spell on yourself, be sure to change 'Thee' to Me.

Next, you will light your candles. Blue first, representing the boy, then pink representing the girl. You will then use them both to light the green candle which represents fertility and growth.

Repeat the spell again focusing on the candles and your intent.

Then drink your apple juice. The apple juice representing the Goddess Hera and fertility. As you drink focus on a child growing in the womb. Imagine all of its limbs and organs forming perfectly.

Repeat the spell one last time, just for good measure.
Be sure to thank the Goddess Hera, or whomever you have decided to call upon to help you, and close your circle.

Continue to drink a glass of apple juice for 7 days after doing the spell. This will increase the fertility magick.

Also, This spell will be more effective if done during the time of ovulation.

I know that there are so many out there who have a difficult time in conceiving. If you try this, and it works for you, please let us know!
And remember, the magick lies within you and the intent that you put behind it.

Love and Light to you All!

The 7 Chakras and their Meanings

For awhile now I have been out of sorts. I have not felt balanced in any way. I don't know why, but I didn't even think that my chakras were out of alignment. But that's exactly what has been going on. I chalk it up to the fact that I haven't been doing my kundalini yoga or meditations like I used to. With life, just being life and never seeming to slow down, you get caught up in the mundane. So I figured I would get back into it, and share with you all my journey of the process.

Before I do that lets just touch base on the 7 different chakras. What each one represents, and the color and meaning behind them.

First off, what is a chakra? A chakra is a center of spiritual power in the human body. There are said to be 7 in number that range from the bottom of your spine to the top of your head along your spinal column. Each chakra is connected to different glands and organs in the body and are responsible for distributing Chi, Praana, Qi, or life energy through them. When there is a blockage or disruption of this life energy a person can suffer from health or mental issues. The chakras form an ecosystem of energy in the body. A deficiency in any area of the ecosystem can cause an imbalance and wreak havoc on someones life. This is why it's so important to try to maintain a healthy balance.

So lets start from the bottom and work our way up!

1
The First Chakra is your Root Chakra also known as Mooladhara Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Red.
The root chakra represents our feeling of being grounded. It represents our foundation. It impacts our passion, vitality, and survival instincts. It indicates our need for logic and order, sexuality and physical strength, and the fight or flight response. The location of this chakra is at the base of the spine in the tailbone area. The Gland which the root chakra is attached to is the gonads.

2
The Second Chakra is your Sacral Chakra also known as the Swadhisthana Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Orange.
The sacral chakra represents our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences. It relates to the water element in the human body. It impacts our sexuality, reproductive function, creativity, joy, desire, and even compassion for others. The sense of taste is associated with the sacral chakra. The location of this chakra is the lower abdomen, about 2 inches below the navel and 2 inches in. Organs and Glands impacted by this chakra include the pelvis, bladder, lymphatic system, large intestines, and female reproductive organs.

3
The Third Chakra is your Solar Plexus Chakra also known as ManiPura Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Yellow.
The solar plexus chakra represents our ability to be confident and in control of our lives. It is the personal power chakra. It is responsible for one's personal and professional success. Our sense of sight is associated with the solar plexus chakra, along with the element of fire; which when balanced allows one to feel more confident, energetic and cheerful. It also provides one with the right amount of respect for self and for others. The location of this chakra is in the upper abdomen in the stomach area. The adrenal glands are associated with the solar plexus chakra.

4
The Fourth Chakra is your Heart Chakra also known as Anahata Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Green.
The heart chakra represents our ability to love. It impacts our joy and inner peace as well. It has the air element and influences our relationships. A weak heart chakra is responsible for sabotaging relationships through envy, distrust, and anger. The sense of touch is impacted by the heart chakra. The location of this chakra is at the center of the chest just above the heart. The glands connected to the heart chakra include the Thymus and lymph.

5
The Fifth Chakra is the Throat Chakra also known as Vishuddhi Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Blue.
The throat chakra represents our ability to communicate and listen. It refers to our true voice. Self expression and the truth.  Individuals with a balanced throat chakra are able to meditate well and use their energy efficiently and artistically. When balanced, the ethereal element of the throat chakra allows the individual to have a pleasant voice, expressive ways, artistic abilities, and the ability to be in a higher place spiritually. The location of this chakra is at the throat. (obviously) The glands attached to the throat chakra include the esophagus, ears, thyroid, throat, jaw, neck vertebrae, and teeth.

6
The Sixth Chakra is the Third Eye Chakra also known as the Ajna Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Indigo.
The third eye chakra represents our ability to focus on and see the big picture. It represents our ability to think and make decisions, our intuition, imagination, and wisdom. Those with a well balanced third eye, or brow, chakra have charismatic personalities, telepathic abilities, and often have no fear of death. Along with the chakra color indigo, the elements of electricity and telepathy are associated with our sense of thought.  The location of this chakra is on the forehead between the eyes. The pineal and pituitary gland are associated with the third eye chakra.

7
The Seventh Chakra is the Crown Chakra, also known as the Sahasrara Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Violet or Purple.
This is the highest chakra. It represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually. In its balanced state this chakra gives a heightened awareness of death and immortality. It can render individuals the ability to perform miracles, and transcend the laws of nature. It represents inner and outer beauty and our connection to spirituality and pure bliss. The location of this chakra is the very top of the head. The crown chakra is associated with the pituitary gland, nervous system, and the brain and head region with its element of light.

This should hopefully give you a basic information of each chakra, that way you can determine what areas you need to work on the most.
When I am doing energy work on myself and am using my selenite wand I can usually tell which area to focus on when I linger on that chakra for a longer period of time.
In this Chakra series I am hoping to touch base on each chakra, giving more information, and some kundalini yoga poses that will assist in aligning your chakras as well.

Love and Light to you All!

How to Anoint a Candle for a Healing Spell

With any Magick you wanna do some research into what corresponds with your intent. For this candle spell my intent is healing for my 11 year old rottweiler, Sage, who just had surgery to remove a tumor.

So I am going to use a blue candle for healing.

I used my porcupine quill to carve onto the candle my intent. I carved "Fast recovery for Sage"
You can carve with any sharp tool you have, quills are my tool of choice.

For this spell I made a conjure oil for my intent.
Grapeseed oil for the carrier
5 drops Orange oil
5 drops Rosemary oil
5 drops Eucalyptus
5 Cloves
5 shakes of Cinnamon spice

5 of everything, 5 ingredients, I'm not sure why I went with that, it just felt right.

I put three drops of my conjure oil onto my candle

And then rubbed it in all over, the bottom, wick, everything.
I've seen the oil dropped onto the center of the candle and rubbed up to the wick and down to the base to promote energy draw. Or just upward motions to promote upward energy. The choice is yours how you want to anoint. I've just always done 3 drops, Maiden, Mother, Crone.

While you are doing all of these steps remember to keep your intent in the front of your mind, always with the intent! That's why these pics are a little blurry, I was really focusing on my puppy recovering fast.

Please refer to my past blog on putting the magick into a candle if you are having trouble focusing on your intent.
http://thewhiteravengirls.blogspot.com/2016/04/putting-magick-into-candle.html

I'm a big fan of sand in a dish as a candle holder. It will always fit every candle and I feel it gives a firm base to my intent. This sand is from Lake Tahoe which is one of my favorite places so it adds more Magick to my spells.

Nessa and I made some loose healing incense a few weeks ago so I already had that prepared. I just lit a charcoal and set the healing incense to simmer next to my candle. You can use any incense of your healing choice.

I also picked a stone for Sage,
Green Kyanite
It's a balancing stone and known to be a natural pain reliever.
I also anointed it with the conjure oil I made.

I added incense as needed and if I were to use this candle in more than one burning I would re-anoint it before relighting it, but since this melted away all in one sitting there was no need.

Once the candle is out, as well as the charcoal, my stone will be fully charged and I will put it under Sage's bed as she recovers.

P.S.
One of your greatest tools as a Witch is going to be your journal, or notebook, or Book of Shadows (whatever you wanna call it) Always write down all of your research and correspondence for spells. It will be so useful when trying to recreate an energy and help further your knowledge.

Beltane Faerie Candle Spell for Banishing Negativity

To continue with spell a day candles I decided to do a Sunday Beltane candle spell. Sundays are for the Sun and help us shine light on any negative energies we are carrying around and banish them. I couldn't decide on what color candle, but since it's Beltane I chose a variety.
Yellow, gold and orange are great for today.

I anointed them with Lavender Oil for peace, happiness, and cleansing, a bit of Honey for the Faeries. Then I rolled them in crushed Sage leaves for grounding and clearing.

Light them up and keep your thoughts positive and your dreams true. Thank the Fae for a beautiful Beltane and feel the negative energies fade away in the sunshine.

See, even a lady bug came by to say hi!

Have a Blessed Beltane!
