The 7 Chakras and their Meanings

For awhile now I have been out of sorts. I have not felt balanced in any way. I don't know why, but I didn't even think that my chakras were out of alignment. But that's exactly what has been going on. I chalk it up to the fact that I haven't been doing my kundalini yoga or meditations like I used to. With life, just being life and never seeming to slow down, you get caught up in the mundane. So I figured I would get back into it, and share with you all my journey of the process.

Before I do that lets just touch base on the 7 different chakras. What each one represents, and the color and meaning behind them.

First off, what is a chakra? A chakra is a center of spiritual power in the human body. There are said to be 7 in number that range from the bottom of your spine to the top of your head along your spinal column. Each chakra is connected to different glands and organs in the body and are responsible for distributing Chi, Praana, Qi, or life energy through them. When there is a blockage or disruption of this life energy a person can suffer from health or mental issues. The chakras form an ecosystem of energy in the body. A deficiency in any area of the ecosystem can cause an imbalance and wreak havoc on someones life. This is why it's so important to try to maintain a healthy balance.

So lets start from the bottom and work our way up!

1
The First Chakra is your Root Chakra also known as Mooladhara Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Red.
The root chakra represents our feeling of being grounded. It represents our foundation. It impacts our passion, vitality, and survival instincts. It indicates our need for logic and order, sexuality and physical strength, and the fight or flight response. The location of this chakra is at the base of the spine in the tailbone area. The Gland which the root chakra is attached to is the gonads.

2
The Second Chakra is your Sacral Chakra also known as the Swadhisthana Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Orange.
The sacral chakra represents our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences. It relates to the water element in the human body. It impacts our sexuality, reproductive function, creativity, joy, desire, and even compassion for others. The sense of taste is associated with the sacral chakra. The location of this chakra is the lower abdomen, about 2 inches below the navel and 2 inches in. Organs and Glands impacted by this chakra include the pelvis, bladder, lymphatic system, large intestines, and female reproductive organs.

3
The Third Chakra is your Solar Plexus Chakra also known as ManiPura Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Yellow.
The solar plexus chakra represents our ability to be confident and in control of our lives. It is the personal power chakra. It is responsible for one's personal and professional success. Our sense of sight is associated with the solar plexus chakra, along with the element of fire; which when balanced allows one to feel more confident, energetic and cheerful. It also provides one with the right amount of respect for self and for others. The location of this chakra is in the upper abdomen in the stomach area. The adrenal glands are associated with the solar plexus chakra.

4
The Fourth Chakra is your Heart Chakra also known as Anahata Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Green.
The heart chakra represents our ability to love. It impacts our joy and inner peace as well. It has the air element and influences our relationships. A weak heart chakra is responsible for sabotaging relationships through envy, distrust, and anger. The sense of touch is impacted by the heart chakra. The location of this chakra is at the center of the chest just above the heart. The glands connected to the heart chakra include the Thymus and lymph.

5
The Fifth Chakra is the Throat Chakra also known as Vishuddhi Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Blue.
The throat chakra represents our ability to communicate and listen. It refers to our true voice. Self expression and the truth.  Individuals with a balanced throat chakra are able to meditate well and use their energy efficiently and artistically. When balanced, the ethereal element of the throat chakra allows the individual to have a pleasant voice, expressive ways, artistic abilities, and the ability to be in a higher place spiritually. The location of this chakra is at the throat. (obviously) The glands attached to the throat chakra include the esophagus, ears, thyroid, throat, jaw, neck vertebrae, and teeth.

6
The Sixth Chakra is the Third Eye Chakra also known as the Ajna Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Indigo.
The third eye chakra represents our ability to focus on and see the big picture. It represents our ability to think and make decisions, our intuition, imagination, and wisdom. Those with a well balanced third eye, or brow, chakra have charismatic personalities, telepathic abilities, and often have no fear of death. Along with the chakra color indigo, the elements of electricity and telepathy are associated with our sense of thought.  The location of this chakra is on the forehead between the eyes. The pineal and pituitary gland are associated with the third eye chakra.

7
The Seventh Chakra is the Crown Chakra, also known as the Sahasrara Chakra.
The color associated with this chakra is Violet or Purple.
This is the highest chakra. It represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually. In its balanced state this chakra gives a heightened awareness of death and immortality. It can render individuals the ability to perform miracles, and transcend the laws of nature. It represents inner and outer beauty and our connection to spirituality and pure bliss. The location of this chakra is the very top of the head. The crown chakra is associated with the pituitary gland, nervous system, and the brain and head region with its element of light.

This should hopefully give you a basic information of each chakra, that way you can determine what areas you need to work on the most.
When I am doing energy work on myself and am using my selenite wand I can usually tell which area to focus on when I linger on that chakra for a longer period of time.
In this Chakra series I am hoping to touch base on each chakra, giving more information, and some kundalini yoga poses that will assist in aligning your chakras as well.

Love and Light to you All!
